..this ain’t WORKING…

so I thought doing the 30 day challenge would make sure that I have at least a post everyday but after DAY 04 I couldn’t get enough time to put up another post.

OKAY! FINE! Here is the truth I just can’t seem to put my mind into following the “rota” as it is. Times I come here and all I want to do is write something meant for day 15 then I realise I have to follow “the rules”. NOT ANYMORE!! I respect whoever came up with the challenge because it gives us a ready topic for thirty straight days. If that isn’t blogloving then I dont what is(see how much I love this idea).

So I have decided I will write on all the topics here but not by following the rota. I really hope that if I do that then I will be able to finish the challenge.

Let’s see if I will be able to see me through….

..DAY 04 – A HABIT I WISH I DIDN’T HAVE..

I am a “sucker” for all things gorgeous. I spend money a lot on things that I wont use just because they looked good on the shelves. I know, I know – I am an advertiser’s dream come true. Many are the time I have walked into a mall just to sight-see or maybe for a specific item but end up walking out with several shopping bags.

I have opted for several options to try to kill(Forgive me Father!) this habit but seems like it has more than nine lives. I have tried having just enough money I need for the day in my wallet and nothing more. FAILED!

I have tried not having so much money in my mobile bank account. M-Pesa is a good store for emergency funds. I always end up seeing my shopping sprees as “emergencies”. FAILED!

I have even left my ATM card at home because my favorite lingerie shop as always been the culprit to snap-shopping (Q: Is this a word? A: It is now. :-p). FAILED MISERABLY! I have managed to leave my card at home but looks like my mobile- bank account is always bailing me out.

My spending habits are wanting.

So in 2012 I hope to improve. I hope someone out here has effective ideas on how to go about it.

..DAY 03 – HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT BLOGGER AND WHY I MADE ONE…

So this is the point where I tell you how it was a suggestion from an acquaintance. RIGHT?!!

WRONG! Because that is not what happened to me.

Okay maybe it is kinda true but let me tell you what really cut.

I was bored surfing through my Facebook wall and trying to get interesting posts to comment on when I came across a link someone had posted.

It was about knickers – you know undergarments. Now that is something you don’t see everyday and the preview was enough to wet my appetite. Who can resist an article that start’s off as “there comes a point in a man’s life when he has to remove a woman’s knicker. It’s inevitable. It’s a point of gravitas. It’s a definitive point. It’s the icing of a flirt. It’s the last horn blown to the game of attraction. It’s the last stanza to the love song…”

My curiosity was at its peak.

I had to meet this article one on one. I had to know what the writer thought about the “art” that is removing a woman’s knickers and why he just couldn’t let the thought in his head be, opting to share his views with world instead. Wanted to see if he had more where that story came from. Surely someone this brave had to have more. I wasn’t disappointed. I spent the rest of my day admiring his work. I practically zoned out. He was brilliant with words.

I wanted somewhere to write stuff too. My experience with diaries is somehow you always lose some pages or they get too old, and what’s with the dog ears???. Not really a reliable system now that I knew there was something better out there.

Off I went to the SIGN UP page and my details were in the cyber-system within minutes. I had just given birth to my baby – this was on Blogger.

I moved to WordPress last year because I felt it had more choices compared to blogger. I maintain both blogs under the name “behindmystunnas”. I intend to better my skills – I would have said perfect BUT all I want is to get better.

But then again if that doesn’t happen I will leave here knowing I had the opportunity to share my views.

You can find the complete “knickers” story on BIKOZULU.

He might as well as come to my doorstep with the above poster for recruitment purposes on that fateful day. Did I mention he is one of the top print journalists in Kenya? I should have because he is.

…DAY 02 – the meaning behind my BLOGGER NAME…

You reading this is simply translated to you landed into 2012 alive – I don’t want to ask about details because some of you are into those long explanations. Tempted as I am to ask, I will SAFELY ASSUME that you are doing fine and let you assume too that I am okay as well. I am fair like that.

…anyhuuuuu…

Let’s get down to business shall we? this is the second post for MY 30 DAY CHALLENGE – MY LIFE. I know it’s supposed to be a post daily for the next thirty but I had to settle into 2012 first. Seven days later and I am ready.

The name BehindMyStunnas was inspired by love for sunglasses. Stunnas because after years of being “cool” and calling them shades, Jagged Edge came in and taught me the name stunnas(Remember that song – STUNNAS ON). I was now cooler. Don’t ask.

I was a shy girl growing up.

I thrived in crowds, being alone always disabled me and my confidence. Especially my confidence. So you can imagine my delight the first time I took my eyes on the road with a pair of stunnas; solo. I didn’t want to take them off. Wanted to walk on forever, it was a liberating feeling. Like some burden had been lifted off me.

After years of NOT being able to venture out on my own for fear of the monsters in my head. Thought of people looking at me and judging me – I know that was all in my head. Back then I didn’t. Every spare shilling I could lay my hands on after that was spent on buying me stunnas. They came in different colors, designs and sizes – I took home different colors, tried out different designers but stuck to the bigger framed ones. I wanted every inch of my eyes covered.

I could now explore the world – judge people and things back. After years of being at the receiving end, it was now my “turn to eat”. I wanted to know more about people. Wanted to tell stories about things. My stunnas were going to help me. I now had the chance to tell first hand stories – right from my point of view; literally. I could now stretch my imagination with some injection of how the “real” world was.

The number of times I have smiled to myself when I witness a situation or some(one/thing). The number of times I have winked at strangers and they are not sure what to make of it. The number of times my eyes have roamed a random guys six-pack chest and away into fantasy island – don’t judge. The moments I have taken in a girls entire look and gone home to try it out because it looked classy. The number of times I have stared someone down with a smile on my face because they were acting all “retard” – pardon my French there I am just starting out on my lessons.

The number of times all these have been made possible is proportional to the number of times I have taken my eyes out on a ride with them stunnas on.

So BehindMyStunnas

.. because they are a safe passage to explore both my fantasy and real world without fear. Eye contact can easily break one’s concentration. They offer that invincible feeling we all crave at one time or another. Also they hide a multitude of sins that can be seen through one’s eyes..

Different colours - check!!. Different designs - check! Big frames - check! Got to love them stunnas
